Health and Safety Statement

Context

Toby’s Premier Pet Care provides non-veterinary services for domesticated pets across the northeast of England.  Team Members are required to visit customer homes to deliver these services with the exception of dog walking where the pets are collected and then walk in the surrounding areas.

There is a shared understanding that health and safety and risk assessment must remain dynamic at all times.  Team Members should never place themselves in a position of potential risk.

Language

Customers’ refers to any person or persons paying Toby’s Premier Pet Care Ltd. to provide services.

Site’ refers to any location where services are provided.  This may include homes or areas where animals visit as part of dog walking services.

Employee/Team Member’ refers to any person provided services on behalf of the organisation whether on a paid or voluntary basis.

Part 1: Statement of Intent

Toby’s Premier Pet Care is committed to ensuring the safety of its staff, customers, members of the general public and the pets it cares for.  We operate with the understanding that whilst animals can be unpredictable, generally speaking, with guidance from pet owners and using common sense most risks can be avoided or controlled.

Our policy is to:

  • Prevent accidents or incidents linked to work-related ill health

  • Manage health and safety risks on all sites

  • Provide clear instructions and information, adequate training, to ensure employees are competent to do their work

  • Provide personal protective equipment (where applicable) and an appropriate uniform

  • Consult regularly with employees and customers on matters relative to their health and safety

  • Provide and maintain safe equipment

  • Ensure safe handling and use of substances (where applicable)

  • Maintain safe and healthy working conditions

  • Implement procedures, including evacuation in case of fire or other significant incident with an understanding that sites will vary in size, layout and location

  • Review and revise this policy regularly

Part 2: Responsibilities for Health and Safety

Overall and final responsibility for health and safety rests with:

  • Company Directors as per Companies House

Day-to-day responsibility for ensuring this policy is put into practice rests with:

  • Company Directors as per Companies House

  • All employees / Team Members

To ensure health and safety standards are maintained and improved, the following staff have responsibility:

  • Company Directors as per Companies House

  • Ensuring this policy and risk assessments are regularly updated and that all systems, protocols and procedures are followed.

  • All employees / Team Members

  • Following guidance and risk assessments at all times including details provided by customers.

All Team Members should:

  • Cooperate and coordinate with Company Directors on matters relating to health and safety

  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and notify the Company Directors at the earliest possible opportunity where they have concerns

  • Ensure that they never place themselves in situations where they feel they may risk their own healthy and/or safety

  • Report all health and safety concerns to Company Directors

Part 3: Arrangement for Health and Safety

Risk Assessment

Toby’s Premier Pet Care will:

  • Complete relevant risk assessments and take action

  • Review risk assessments when working habits or conditions change

Training

  • There is an understanding that no formal training is required to fulfil our Team Member roles however all guidance and advice from customers must be followed

  • We will give Team Members an appropriate health and safety induction and provide appropriate training

  • We will provide personal protective equipment including a uniform (if applicable)

  • We will make sure that arrangements are in place for Training members as they work remotely

Consultation

  • We will consult staff regularly on health and safety matters as they arise

  • We will consult staff immediately where an accident or incident occurs and revisit risk assessments and this policy if necessary 

Evacuation

  • Evacuation routes will differ at each site.  Team Members should familiarise themselves with escape routes at each site.

  • If Team Members have concerns about escape routes at any location, they should contact a Company Director immediately.
